Understanding the NDIS

NDIS & Positive Behaviour Support

Everything you need to know about accessing Positive Behaviour Support funding through the NDIS.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding and support to people with permanent and significant disability. It gives participants choice and control over the supports they access to help them live an ordinary life.

The NDIS funds a wide range of supports — from daily personal care and community participation to specialist therapies and behaviour support. Funding is tailored to each participant's individual goals and needs, as outlined in their NDIS plan.

Positive Behaviour Support

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred, evidence-based approach to understanding and responding to behaviours of concern. Rather than focusing on managing or suppressing behaviour, PBS seeks to understand the reasons behind it and address unmet needs.

PBS practitioners work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, and support teams to develop strategies that improve quality of life, build skills, and reduce the need for restrictive practices over time.

Person-Centred

Every support plan is built around the individual's unique strengths, goals, and preferences.

Evidence-Based

Strategies are grounded in research and best-practice clinical frameworks.

Collaborative

We work alongside participants, families, carers, and support teams as equal partners.

Outcomes-Focused

Our goal is measurable improvement in quality of life and reduction of restrictive practices.

NDIS Funding

How is PBS funded through the NDIS?

Positive Behaviour Support is funded under the Capacity Building — Improved Relationships support category in your NDIS plan. If you or someone you support has behaviours of concern, you may be eligible for PBS funding.
